Patterns

For the past two weeks I have been finding patterns and fabrics. Last week because of the snow I could only search on the internet for patterns. This past weekend I went to a fabric store and picked upsome fabric and a pattern. Between and the long lines of traffic in Indianapolis and the million options of dresses it was a long process. I purchased three different types of fabric. I also purchased thread, zippers, and buttons to add to the dresses.
While picking out the fabric I wanted to stay with a summer theme. I wanted to buy something that would not be hot in the sun and something that is bright and colorful. I ending up buying a red fabric with white poke a dots and I bought a plain white fabric and the last fabric I purchased was a white fabric with blue swirls and flowers.
I am going to create three dresses. One the dresses will be done with pattern I create. I have already started this partter. I have taken measurements that is needed. I have created the lower protion of the dress pattern. The next step is to create the middle and the top portion of the dress. This process is time consuming. I have to double check everything and reread every step, because if I do one step wrong or if i am off by a 1/4 of an inch then the dress will come together wrong. The next dress that I am going to create is going to from a pattern you can pick up from the store. I want to be able to describe the two different processes. One process that is done by hand with and time consuming and a process that has the help of tecnology. I want to descibe the process and the pros and cons of each process. I want to also find out which process is the easiest.
This week I am planning to start cutting fabric and putting together a dress. I still have not decided which fabric is going for what. I want to finish the pattern first before I decided.

New Ideas

Over the weekend I have had time to rethink what I want to do. I am deciding to go a more creative route rather than useful. Although I still want to keep with the idea that I want to create something that I can use, but now the items that I create will be something I want rather then need. I want this experience to be a fun and exciting and not just another odd in job or work session. I wan to do something that I wont get bored or annoyed with.

After some consideration I have decided that the craft I am going to be making are summer dresses. Spring and Summer are just around the corner and i would be nice to have some new outfits to help enjoy it. Also making the dress will help me get over the fact that it is so cold out. Creating dress are certainly not needed but I really do want some new dresses and this is a way I will better enjoy them, because I would have made them.

This week I am going to research how to make a pattern for dress. It is going to be rather difficult because there are some many elements to take in to consideration. First being the fit and making sure I can get it to my size. Doing it all by hand is a task because you might mess up some where. It is not like taking a pattern and tracing and cutting.
